Easter Seals Northern California Rohnert Park Site Visit A Visit with U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey
U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey met with a group of young children with disabilities and special needs and their eleven families and eleven staff members in Sonoma County on Thursday, August 21, 2008 to tell her about their situations. The Congresswoman visited with every family and heard their personal yet moving stories. She heard how Easter Seals provided special training for their families as well as their children and how greatly their lives were improved. (Photo: Congresswoman Woolsey with Brittany) “Before Easter Seals, my son German, 2, didn’t have many words, now he has many,” Erica Hernandez stated. Without programs like this, children can experience difficulties later in their education. This therapeutic program includes skill development, singing, arts and crafts, circle time, singing, dancing and their parents participate and learn to work with their children at home. Children from a variety of Easter Seals programs enjoyed the special day with the Congresswoman! Youngsters from the Early Intervention program, Roly Poly Group, Transition Group, Adaptive Physical Education, Educational Services, Social Recreation program and Social Networking Group were represented along with staff from those programs too. Jessica Hyde, a Sonoma teenager, received Easter Seals services as an infant and for three years after experiencing developmental delays. “I am certain that it helped her become the vibrant, incredible girl she is now,” said beaming Dad, Gene. “She is a cheerleader, speaks two languages, plays the flute, and is a great student!” Easter Seals provides Social Recreation Programs, Early Intervention Programs, Adaptive Physical Education, Educational Services, Sign Language Interpreters, Speech Therapy and many other specialist services for children and adults with disabilities in Sonoma. We serve children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down syndrome and many other disabilities. Many children have multiple disabilities and require specialized programs, which we provide. Each child receives a program unique to their needs to maximize their potential and development. P.S. You can make a difference too by supporting these programs. Without Easter Seals, many of these families could not find the appropriate programs and services needed for their children.
